The FUSS distribution

The first fundamental criterion used for the development of the FUSS distribution was to distribuite only free software.

This is because of several reasons:

• The consistency on both philosophical and political aspects regarding the choice of using free software.

• The possibility to install, use and distribuite the software not just at school but also to students and families, and doing it in a law-respectful way.

• The freedom to modify and customize the software to meet the specific needs.

The second is regarding maintanability. One of the greatest values of free software is the freedom to reuse something already developed by the community without re-inventing the wheel every time. This is why we've choosen to start from an existing infrastructure which we judge well development and which can guarantee security and maintenability for the future.

The third is regarding modularity: the FUSS distribution must be assembled and disassembled to adapt itself to several teaching environments (middle school, high school and so on). Because of this, it is necessary to use an infrastructure which can be easily customized.
